Good Habits for Healthy Skin

Habits define the big outcomes of our life. That’s a fact most know, but few bring into practice. Especially when it comes to skincare. Most women start big with an elaborate skincare routine but give up in a few days. It is hence essential to start small. Instead of building a huge skincare routine, the first step should be to imbibe good habits for healthy skin. These small habits, like little building blocks, will help you immensely in the long run. And most of these habits don’t need you to go shopping for a ton of products! So you can start right away.

1. Eat a Reasonable, Nutritious, Balanced Diet

See, we said reasonable and nutritious in the same phrase. This means you are not forced to swap all your favourite junk, white sugars and meats for a platter of greens and grains. But it is a good habit to control what you eat, plan reasonable meals, and include 3-4 ingredients per day that are good for your skin. Skin-loving foods include:

  • Good fatty acids
  • Omega-rich Fish
  • Vitamin and Mineral-rich veggies and greens
  • Citrus and water-heavy fruits
  • Berries, nuts and dark chocolate high in antioxidants

Create a balanced diet where you get your spaghetti with meatballs one night, as well as portion control it and take a side dish of salad too! Go for desserts, but try to replace sugary pies or pastries with dark chocolate bites. This good habit, when made a part of your lifestyle, will go a long way in reflecting on your skin!

2. Schedule Your Sleep

Like everything else in your life, you should schedule your sleep too. What does it mean to schedule your sleep? For eg. prepare for your sleep like you would prepare for an important meeting.

Shower

  • Wear your comfiest pyjamas
  • Make sure you have eaten at least 2-3 hours in advance
  • Draw the curtains, switch off the lights, control the temp
  • Put away your phone
  • And tuck into bed

This kind of routine will ensure that you fall asleep at the time you scheduled, get a good night’s sleep, and wake up refreshed. When the sleep cycle is sorted out like this, the skin glows naturally because a lot of skin cell repair goes on at night as you sleep. You will also start seeing improvement in any dark circles, puffy under eyes etc.

3. Take Time Out for Self Love

The concept of self-love is not limited to Eat Pray Love kinda books. You need to break down the concept into something tangible for yourself. You need to take time out so that your mind, body and spirit are balanced. How to do that? It’s pretty simple and enjoyable.

Do what you enjoy! Pick whatever relaxes you, and indulge in it for a few minutes every day.

  • Take a walk
  • Spend half an hour gardening
  • Read
  • Meditate
  • Perform Yoga

Or pick an activity of your choice. This keeps your body and mind in a happy state of mind, which directly impacts your skin. Happy people often glow from within, and their skin problems hardly persist as their body itself helps their skin heal.

4. Exercise

Exercising is directly linked to healthy skin. This habit is the best for a lot of other things too, like weight, body healthy, stress relief and looks. The sweating after a good workout is so beneficial for the skin because along with that sweat a lot of toxins are also excreted by the skin. That is why post-workout selfies come out so good! Your skin is glowing due to all the increased blood circulation and sweat. In a day, take out 20-40 minutes, and either take to the gym or go to a park and walk/run/jog/do yoga.

5. Get Regular Facials

In the daily commute and rush, our skin is exposed to so much pollution, dust and grime. And home exfoliation kits can only do so much. Therefore dermatologists always recommend a regular facial schedule. Most spas and salons often keep standing appointments of their regular customers with the aesthetician of their choice. One facial every 4-5 weeks is essentially a good habit, as it detoxifies, rejuvenates and revives the skin under expert hands. For women suffering severe skin problems like acne, eczema, chronic dry skin etc, more frequent facials help. A professional routine of exfoliation, clean-up, steam, mask and massage promotes skin cell renewal and glow, leaving you to enjoy your soft skin for the next couple of weeks.

5 simple habits, and nothing to buy from the market! Just put them in action and continue for at least 8 days without breaking stride. You will then be able to continue the habit without conscious thought. For a standing facial appointment, contact Savarnas Beauty Spa. Or just become a member.
